Of interest to this topic, the DSA Marxist Unity Group published a September 2,
2026 statement entitled "Abolition is a Minimum Program Demand"

>From the Antony Teso essay at live.com:

"This is also where interpersonal violence enters, not as a bad-faith objection
from the right but as the practical testany serious account has to answer.
Dismantling the special repressive apparatus cannot mean leaving working-class
people exposed to violence inside their own lives. The question is what form of
collective protection could replace a professional force standing above them.
Which is why the 2020 sequence unfolded as it did: not because the demand was
too radical for the public, but because it was addressed to the wrong level of
the problem by a movement that had not yet built the power to reach the right
one. "

>From the MUG statement at marxistunity.com:

"That is why we in Marxist Unity Group recognize that the road to abolition
requires the abolition of the separate class of police as well as the separate
class of the imprisoned. This requires the creation of a democratic and popular
militia—flowing from the working class and the oppressed’s organs of
self-defense established under capitalism and defined by the right to bear
arms, the sovereignty of the people, universal service and training, and a
rigorous community control coexisting with the democratic rights of members.
Further, Marxist Unity Group calls for the extension of labor and legal rights
to the imprisoned."
