Tom Walker May 13, 1948 - September 17, 2026 With love and sorrow we share the passing of John Thomas (Tom) Walker. He passed peacefully at The Cottage Hospice in his beloved East Vancouver, surrounded by family and loved ones. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his partner Sande, children Jessica (Wayne), Amy, and Reuben (Morgan), his grandson Ian (Jessie), and cherished great-grandson Wesley. He is also survived by his siblings Julie (Steve), and Jim (Jenni) and the mothers of his children, Kate and Georgina. Tom had a long and varied career working in many areas of public policy and urban planning, including in later years as a Lecturer in the Labour Studies Department at Simon Fraser University. He was passionate about shorter work time policy, interpretations of the writings of Karl Marx, and making pop-up books. Before and after moving to Canada in 1967, Tom was active in protesting the Vietnam War, and was part of the Vancouver American Exiles Association. Civic engagement, dialogue, and protest were important aspects of his life, and he continued to share his ideas with a combination of academic work, street theatre, interactive displays, photomontage, and paper art. Tom lived simply, and, true to his values, enjoyed the simple act of living.
