Don’t forget Mohammad. Don’t forget any of them. And don’t forgive any of those
who committed these crimes or made excuses for them.
Remembering the real human beings behind the numbers in Gaza is the best way to
both honour their memory and stand against the barbaric forces that allowed for
atrocity.

Mohammad Bhar was a 24-year-old Palestinian man with Down syndrome and autism
who lived with his family in Gaza. He loved dancing and sports. And he adored
his mother, Nabila, whom he depended on for everything. Nabila was a widow,
since Israel killed her husband in a raid back in 2002.
In November 2024, after the family had tried to find a safe place, they were
forced to return to their home. Not long after, Israeli soldiers broke into
their home with a military attack dog. Mohammad could not move without
assistance. So, he sat in his favourite chair.
The soldiers let the dog attack and maul him as he helplessly begged it to
stop, screaming "wala, wala [hey you]" and "khalas, ya habibi" [enough, my
dear]" He even gently patted the dog's head.
Eventually, the soldiers pulled the dog off of Mohammad, who was then horribly
injured with bites to his arms and chest. They forced him into another room and
held the rest of the family at gunpoint, forcing them to leave him. But they
assured them that he would receive medical care for his wounds. They lied.
Mohammad's family desperately tried to get help for him by calling the
Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). Unfortunately, they could not provide
them any hope because Israel refused all of their requests.
When the family was able to return home, they found Mohammad's decomposing body
covered in dried blood, worms beginning to eat his face, and a tourniquet tied
tightly around one of his arms. The soldiers left this terrified young man with
a disability in his home without his family, with terrible injuries they had
inflicted. They left him to die alone.
Mohammad's mother Nabila was forced to live with this horror. She said; "This
scene I will never forget. I constantly see the dog tearing at him and his
hand, and the blood pouring from his hand. It is always in front of my eyes,
never leaving me for a moment. We couldn't save him, neither from them nor from
the dog."
Does this story enrage you? If the answer is yes, then good. It means you are
still a human being with a conscience. With a sense of morality and decency.
But being enraged isn't enough.
We need to remember Mohammad Bhar, as well as five year old Hind Rajab, as well
as the poet Refaat Alareer, as well as the hundreds of thousands of other
victims of Israel's barbarism. Every time a political leader like Netanyahu
spews more lies. Every time a hack like Bill Maher smugly mocks the oppressed
or those who stand with them. Every time an influencer like Steven Bonnell II
(Destiny) makes mealymouthed rationalizations to whitewash these atrocities.
Every time an actor like Mayim Bialek pretends she is the one who is in danger.
Every time a grifter like Van Jones cracks jokes about “dead Gaza babies.”
Every time a singer like Pink is offended by the audacity of liberation for the
Palestinians. Every time a billionaire like Robert Kraft threatens censorship.
Every time a intellectual fraud like Sam Harris uses logical fallacies to mask
his racism. Every time a pop star like Ed Sheeran cries crocodile tears about
having to take a side.
Every time. Without hesitation. Without an ounce of regret.
Because Mohammad, because all of them, deserve nothing less than this.
