+1 for using Jasper Reports.
IMO reporting module should be a generic one & each solution/project can
define their report definitions (.jrxml file).

This seems to me like a good feature to have, especially in an
enterprise scale deployment. A reporting module will allow the admins to
harvest more information from the databases. We can have a few basic
reports to begin with and let the admins integrate customized reports.
JasperReports[1] (LGPL licensed) is an ideal candidate for a base
platform. I have worked with it in the past and it is IMHO, the best
OpenSource business intelligence product out there.
