My primary use case is for generating absolute URIs for feeds 
(rss/channel/link) that can be automatically calculated.  I don't really care 
much about the form of the URI as long as dereferencing it works, though I 
don't see any downside (and some upside even) to a URL changing depending on 
the transport used.
