Hi All,

OpenID support has been added to the mashup server, and you should be able to test it on tonight's build. If you're familiar with the InfoCard support we added to the server, this works the same way and uses much of the same code, albeit after a little refactoring.

If you've already got yourself an ID on your installation of the Mashup server, you can simply associate an OpenID with this account, by clicking on the 'Register your OpenID' link in the 'Management task' pane and submitting your OpenID URL in the field displayed. You need to use this option if you want to associate an OpenID with your admin profile.

Of course, if you're registering yourself as a new user, you can simply provide your OpenID in the self registration page and the Mashup Server will try to get your full name and e-mail ID from the OpenID provider, along with your nickname, which if unique, will be used as your user ID. This would ideally make self registration even easier than when using InfoCard because you will not have to type in anything other than your URL for registration!

Unfortunately, even if we state that certain claims such as name and e-mail as required, there is no guarantee we will get the information, because OpenID unlike InfoCard, does not guarantee this. Of course, you'll be prompted to enter any information that your provider isn't willing to share or doesn't have, so even if absolutely no claims are provided, by self registering via the OpenID route, you save yourself the trouble of having to associate it with your profile later on.

Please do try it out and let me know if you face any problems. TIP - use myopenid.com to test with your Mashup Server on localhost; the rest apparently won't send a callback to localhost.

Bye,
Channa.
