I was having trouble getting a time server running on a RedHat 6.2 box. The
confusing part of the situation was that Win98 machines running on an
internal LAN masqueraded through the Linux machine were hitting a time
server on the net without a problem. That threw me way off track!

To shorten a long story and for the benefit of anyone reading this group the
answer was simple once I spent a little time on it and had a few suggestions
from this mail list...

It was a firewall issue. Even though the firewall was passing NTP traffic
from the internal net to the external one, it wasn't allowing NTP traffic
from the masquerading server itself. I opened UDP traffic on port 123 and
everything works fine now!

Thanks to those this mail list who helped sort this out! I appreciate the
help.
