Looking for assistance in setting up a Debian 2.1 system with
Kernel v 2.0.38.
Have both IPFWADM and IPPORTFW installed.
The Linux server has two NICs. ETH1 is attached to the DSL line. The
DSL box is also a DHCP server. So the address that the Linux box gets
is dynamically assigned. ETH0 is attached to the local network
(192.168.1.0). All computers on the local network also utilize
DHCP.
How do I set up routes and firewall rules to do this. The only way
I can get things to halfway work now is by letting the Linux box get
an address from the DSL box (default route ETH1), then change the
routes so that that default goes to ETH0. This works fine to assign
addresses to local computers, but I can not figure out how to allow
local computers to address the world (through the Linux box). I
can ping away at world addresses through the linux box, and with
ETH0 as default route I can connect to shares on the Linux box, so I
am fairly certain I have NAMED set up correctly. I can't seem to
go from internal networked computers to the world though.
Any assistance/advice on setting up the Routes as well as IPFWADM
rulesets would be appreciated.
