I've tried to send this long post 3 times, so I'm going to break it up and see
if it gets there.

I found a firewall utility, "Pmfirewall", that purports to set up firewalling and
masquerading and tried it yesterday.
It set up a good firewall, but still my Windoze98 box cannot connect to the outside.
Below are the outputs of ifconfig,
route and ipchains on my Linux box when I'm connected by ppp0 to the ISP. Can you see
anything wrong with this?
Perhaps the problem is in the Windows box.
Here is its setup:
Ethernet card is 192.168.1.10, assigned by DHCP. Netmask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway is 192.168.1.254 - is this a problem? Route PRINT displays this.
Gateway to my Linux box is 192.168.1.1. Assigned in networking, but doesn't appear
when route PRINT is invoked.
Secondary gateway assigned is my ISPs 63.252.247.45.
My internal net is fully functional. I run Samba/NetBios and share files. I can ping
both ways, get www, ftp, etc.,
from my Linux box to the Windows box.

I'm running a caching nameserver. It can pass and resolve a net name onto the Windows
box, but there is no route through,
i.e., ping times out, to the outside.

I appologize beforehand for sending so much data, but I'm at my wit's end. Of course,
it will probably be some simple problem
I don't see and I'll have to smack myself upside the head and say "DUH!" This is the
first networking problem that I haven't been
able to solve.
