/* HINT: Search archives @ http://www.indyramp.com/masq/ before posting! /* ALSO: Don't quote this header. It makes you look lame :-) */ This is really wierd..... First, here's my setup: Firewall/IPMASQ system: 486DX66, 8MB RAM Kernel 2.2.16 2 10Mbps ALN-101 (NE2000 driver) 1Mbps Nortel modem on eth1 w/ PPPoE, MTU=1460 (ADSL) Internal IP: 10.0.0.3 (eth0) Using example IPChains setup from HOWTO CPU usage when transferring from either internal net machine @ 115KBps is ~40% Internal Network: Win95 System 1 10/100Mbps DLink NIC Internal IP: 10.0.0.2 Linux 2.2.16 System 1 10Mbps SMC Ultra NIC Internal IP: 10.0.0.1 All 3 are connected to a 5-port 10Mbps hub (cable is fine, ping < 2ms all around), Netmask=255.255.255.0 Here's what happens: - Win95 System gets full transfer rates (~115KBps) - After rebooting the Linux system, I get full speed with FTP until a WWW/PPP connection is made - if I start a Netscape session right after reboot, I get full transfer rates for approx. 5 minutes, then about 4KBps after. Any type of connection to the Internet from the Linux machine after WWW/PPP connection has been made (and ended) is about 4KBps. After about 2 hours, transfers go back up to about 10-15KBps. If anyone has any suggestions.....if you need more info to make a diagnosis, I'll post it.....
