I'm no newbie, but this problem has me stumped.

I'm using Mandrake 7.0 as a masq server. A cable modem is attached to eth0 and
a private Lan is attached to eth1. I also have a modem ppp0 that is still
available if required.

If I dial out on ppp0, everything works fine. Masq works, my clients go though
the firewall etc. If I then hang up the phone, everything still works fine. I
can masq though the cable modem without any problems. So I know that the
firewall and the client machines and the network cards are all working fine.

Now when I reboot the system, or restart networking, nothing works. No DNS, I
can't ping the cable provider's DNS server -- everythign is shutdown. Until I
dial out using ppp0 and then hang-up!

If I do ifconfig, it reports an IP address for all the interfaces, yet nothing
gets forwarded unless I dial ppp0 first. I'm using dhcpcd. I assume my
problem has something to do with grabbing the IP address, but I don't know what
is going on. I don't think my IP address is changing between network restarts,
and that is what is causing problems for dhcpcd and masq.

I've tried simple rc.firewall scripts, and I'm currently using PM firewall
(latest version). They should be grabbing the IP address.
Anyway, I'd like to cancel my old dialup ISP and save some bucks, but I don't
dare, until I can be sure that I can start masqing on the server.

Can anyone help?
