they are vastly different. netfilter is a complete rewrite that
is far more powerful (stateful filtering and nat). if the only
problem is the the source address, you could use 2.4/netfilter
to rewrite it but 2.4 isn't stable yet so that is unwise. it
can also be done with 2.2 but you'd need the iproute2 utility
to do the address rewriting. it may be more complicated though,
depending on the msn protocol. don't know anything about that.
