I have since learned the issue lies with AOL itself. My big problem is with
the Mac client. I had posted on various Macintosh boards asking if anyone
else was experiencing issues and I received replies from no one. Since the
only thing that I had that was unique was the IP Masquerading, I assumed it
must be the culprit.
What further complicated the issue was the installation of 4.3 for Windows
on my other laptop. The Windows version would also produce errors and not
allow me to log in. Well, I hooked up the laptop directly to the cable
modem and 4.3 STILL gave me issues. I called my ISP (@Home) and asked if
anyone else was having issues with AIM. They told me no, but they don't
support it. So it comes down to me and AOL. I will be recoring my machine
this weekend to see if it's me.
Overall, I find AIM to be buggy and quirky, with IRC being the more stable
choice for direct messaging and chat, but with the addition of the OSCAR
protocol to things like Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise, we're gonna need
good MASQ support for it.....
