port forwarding can be made to work for internally initiated
connections by applying michael best's masq-demasq kernel
patch which can be found at http://www.com.org/~michael/masq-demasq.zip

alternatively, you could setup separate dns servers for
internal/external use such that the internal users get
internal ip addresses when using the external names so
no port forwarding is required.

the patch is easier to setup but it obviously requires a
reboot.
