I have an IP-masquerading server MASQing two machines which can browse the internet,
etc. everything looks fine for daily use.
However, somehow the external IP-address of the MASQed machines seems to be different
from the external IP-address of the server. This shows, for example, when subscribing
to this mailing list from a MASQed machine: 'message sent from XXX.XXX.XXX.2' whereas
ifconfig on the server reveals that its IP is really XXX.XXX.XXX.173.
Additionally, the MASQ'ed machines can ping any external IP, EXCEPT the server's
XXX.XXX.XXX.173 IP.
I'm dumbfounded as to what causes this (after all, MASQing seems to be working
perfectly!) or what output is needed for diagnosis - any pointers appreciated!
