I was just moved over from @home to cox.net and I can't seem to get things working right anymore.

The issue seems to surround DNS and DHCP.

My linux RH7.1 server is the gateway router I'm using to push traffic to my workstation and secure it from the world.  I had never setup DHCP, relying on @home's long (infinite lease times).

Now I have setup eth0 to use DHCP (fairly simple, check the box).  On bootup the system gets and address and 2 DNS names, but I still can't seem to get it running.  I can't resolve names with the new 68.5.16.30 DNS servers.  I have a feeling that this has something to do with the fact that my hostname has now changed (the documents from cox say that you can delete hostname altogether.)  I thought that the dns servers were issueing the names, but now I'm not so sure.

I added my old DNS server from @home 24.1.160.33 and I can now access the net from the Linux server, but not from the internal client.  Then I setup the internal clients to use the old DNS and it can now access the net, but not the support.cox.net home pages...

I'm so confused I can't tell you.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

carl
