I should have said in my first posting, I am new to linux and as always ways 
I thought I would jump in to the deep end.

I understand I have to open TCP port 5800.  My next question is, how do I do 
this?

if you're only going to have one vnc connection at a time,
open tcp/5800 to that host but only for the ip addresses
that you will be using to run vncviewer.
