Hello, I am having some problems getting my Linux gateway up and running. Hopefully you can help. First I have Debian Linux Kernel version 2.2.19 running the gateway and I am browsing the internet from an NT4 workstation computer. My Linux gateway uses a pppoe DSL connection. before I get started, here are my results from chapter 5 of the FAQ: 5.1: ipchains.o is not installed. rc.firewall runs without errors. 5.2 ping masq-client (192.168.233.5) from masq-client (192.168.233.5) is successful. 5.3 ping masq-server (192.168.233.1) from masq-client (192.168.233.5) is succcessful 5.4 ping masq-server (192.168.233.1) from masq-server (192.168.233.1) is successful 5.5 ping masq-client (192.168.233.5) from masq-server (192.168.233.1) is successful 5.6 ping masq-server's external network (eth0) interface (192.168.0.2) from masq-server is successful 5.7 ping masq-server's external network (eth0) interface (192.168.0.2) from masq-client (192.168.233.5) is successful 5.8 ping external static I/P address (198.182.196.56 - www.linux.org) from masq-client (192.168.233.5) is successful 5.9 I don't have telnet installed on my masq-server. I was told not to install it for security reasons. For now I am using the simple rc.firewall ruleset. 5.10 see 5.9 5.11 I can browse the internet from the masq-client no problemo. BUT some websites do not come through. Moving on to section 7.15 of the FAQ. I tried an MTU value of 1460, 1490, 1492 and just for fun 1500 and none of them work. I can't ping www.morningstar.com (my chosen non-reachable website - works with a direct NT4 internet connection fine) from the masq-server. I tried editing /etc/ppp/options with different mru and mrt values but I always get the same results. Then, I noticed running /sbin/ifconfig that the MTU was staying at 1492 for pppoe anyway. Only running the command /sbin/ifconfig ppp0 mtu 1500 (or whatever value) would change the value listed. I tried eth0 and ppp0 at 1500,1492,1490 and 1460 and all the rest (eth1, etc) and kept them the same. No luck pinging the morningstar website from the masq server. Any ideas???
