The problem is that the packets from your internal network are being NAT'd
to your external IP address and then unable to return (due to rules in
place).  I faced this very same problem in developing my iptables script. 
The rules necessary to facilitate internal machines accessing the external
IP are in my script available at http://asgardsrealm.net/linux/firewall/
