I suspect that the address change messes up MASQing. Indeed, the firewall will think someone is trying to spoof a reply to your ping, and will not allow it. I'm curious, is this simply a policy of your ISP? That is, if you remove all the masqing and simply ping your default gateway directly from your router, does the ping succeed? Or does it still come from a different IP, like above?
