I believe he originally said that his MTU is 576, and that he wants to
keep it that way. Unfortunately, it will always lead to this problem
with particular sites. MTU=1500 is the only way to assure connectivity
to all sites when using masquerade.
That last comment I heard on masq-dev, about ICMP-unreachable packets
being sent with the wrong IP address, sounds very promising if it's the
cause of this problem. I don't know if anyone is working on it, though.
