One thing to check on -- make sure that your /lib/modules/2.2.7 is either a
direct folder created by your make modules_install AND that you don't have a
"preferred" link in /lib/modules.
When I had that problem (with an earlier kernel), I found that the
"preferred" was set as a link to the original modules created by RedHat.
Removing that "preferred" link allowed depmod -a to work correctly (and use
the correct module set).
