I agree. I have one client using Wingate on NT -- I didn't design the
system.
Wingate periodically just stops working. Somebody has to go to
the server, find the icon in the tool tray, stop then restart the
"engine." From the workstations, standard web access works,
telnet doesn't, haven't tried ftp. The client is a law firm, and it's
natural to use the internet to get to their research services, but the
initial installer had to do some modifying of the scripts to allow
Westlaw to work through Wingate. Plus, the version I have is
licensed by number of concurrent users.
On the law firms I have using Linux gateways, all the software we
want to use works without any hassle or modifications. Period. It
just works. I'm about ready to really twist an arm or two, to get the
client above to switch to a Linux gateway.
Plus, think about this. The client above is using their main file
server as the gateway. I don't know about you, but that scares me!
