Dunno if this is helpful or not. Personally, I am still learning a lot
about linux. Late last night, I found this page that was very helpful.

question 1 enabled outsiders to pass through my firewall on port 8080 to
a web server on the perimeter. I use kernel 2.2.10 with the firewall
and masquerade config options turned on. I did not experience the delay
symptoms you described.
