Thank you for your advice! It helped me configure the solution which works for me
now, even if it may be a bit awkward (on a SuSe-6.2. system):
I have 127.0.0.1 as nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf, but I do not start named on
booting, so dns querries return more quickly with an error message, when the ppp link
is down. when I connect, I start named in /etc/ppp/ip-up with "/usr/sbin/ndc start",
and stop it on disconnect with "/usr/sbin/ndc stop".
Any comments on this by anyone?

I use Netscape. Communicator 4.61. Is there any more reliabe version? Is there a
navigator-only version (without messenger and composer) for linux?
