Answer: yes, I do it multiple times daily through my ipchains router.
What does your 'forward' chain say about 110/tcp ?
(From memory as I'm at a client site)
# allow intranet POP3 requests and replies
ipchains -A input -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT
ipchains -A output -i eth0 -p tcp --sport 110 -j ACCEPT
# allow internet POP3 requests and replies
ipchains -A output -i ppp0 -p tcp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT
ipchains -A input -i ppp0 -p tcp --sport 110 -j ACCEPT
# allow routing POP3 requests and replies
ipchains -A forward -p tcp --dport 110 -j MASQ

Is there anyway to recieve mail from two different pop accounts using two
different pop mail servers. We use Eudora on our IBM compatibles with each
user having an account on our server from which they can retrieve email.
There are other users which use another email provider, not exactly sure
why, because it's there I guess. They can receive e-mail from our local
pop server just fine bust they cannot receive email from the other remote
pop server. Here is my ipchain statement which makes since why it doesn't
work since I am only allowing local traffic to a specific server not just
any.

ipchains -A output -i $EXTERNAL_INTERFACE -p tcp \
-s $IPADDR $UNPRIVPORTS \

-d $IPADDR $UNPRIVPORTS -j ACCEPT
