Hi Folks!

I've got an interesting situation which I think might be somewhat
troublesome to resolve. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar
experience before (the logs didn't indicate so, but they only go back so
far...).

I have an ethernet connection to the 'net through my university (I live on
campus). Now, our subnet is restricted in that the uni gateway filters out
_all_ packets from us before they can get to the outside world. Similarly,
the gateway on our subnet filters out _all_ packets that are not from our
uni domain the are destined for our subnet. We are forced to use the uni
proxy server for WWW/FTP access, and their unix hosts (on another subnet)
for anything else. This is OK, but it doesn't allow us to use such useful
tools as ICQ...

Anyway, I have a linux box on our residential subnet, and I also have one in
my office at uni. The machine that resides at uni in my office is not
subjected to the same restrictions regarding packet filtering as the one at
home.

What I am looking to do is to employ the linux box in my office, with its
full 'net access, as some sort of masquerader for my linux box (and other
winbloze machines) at my residence.

I have set up IP masqueraders before (our residential computer lab runs
through one to keep it separate from the residential network), but I am at a
loss as to how to go about setting up an IP masquerader that is not on the
same subnet as the machines that it is to masquerade for.

Is this at all possible? (I would hope that it is, but it does seem
problematic.) I can provide IPs, and a diagram if anyone thinks that this
is worth persuing and that they would be neccessary.

Thanks for your words of wisdom!
