There is an "IP Aliasing Mini-HOWTO" at
http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/mini/IP-Alias.html
It will probably get you where you need to be.
Basically, you configure the virtual interface by appending a number to
the real interface, such as "eth0:0". You configure it just like the
real interface, with its own IP address and routes.
Because the interface has its own IP address which is separate from your
usual interfaces, Linux can tell the difference between services
destined for itself, and services destined for your forwarded host
behind the firewall.
After you get ipportfw going, I think you will find that you have a
reasonable balance between security and accessibility.
