If these messages occur while your system boots, it's most likely because you
have unnecessary modules under your /lib/modules directory.  Rename your module
directory (probably named something like /lib/modules/2.0.34) to something else
and reinstall your kernel modules.  This will only install the modules you
selected during the kernel configuration.  If something goes wrong, rename the
original directory back to its original name.

I've been using diald for nearly a year with no problems under RedHat 4.2.  I
don't use any of the configuration tools, though.  pppd and chat scripts are
pretty easy to build.  I started with an article about diald that appeared in
Linux Journal, which had fairly well detailed instructions.
