You are right about that but many manufactures do NOT follow
this standard. There was a recent BugTraq tread about this.
To show this, a user setup a bot on a IRC channel to send out
a +++ath0 string and over 45% of the people on that
IRC channel dropped! The modems that weren't effected
were real Hayes and USR modems. Check out the BugTraq
