   On my gateway box, HOSTNAME is the name my ISP knows the host by, that
is, chives.mv.com
   DOMAINNAME=mv.com
   The other variables you asked about don't exist at all.  Their setup is
handled by /etc/ppp/ppp-on and the ip-up script.
