Hey Joshua,
First, I would recommend that you upgrade your T/A's firmware and
the PPP software to the newests revs (PPP is up to 2.3.x), etc.
It probably won't make any difference but it will probably help
narrow things down, be faster, etc.
Also.. what ISDN T/A do you have? Is it running in ML/PPP mode or
is it running in a transparent passthru mode? You should ALWAYS
be specific with versions of hardware, firmware, software, etc
when seeking technical help!

This seems to be an issue of the ISDN server you are dialing into.
LCP echo issues are a classic problem of the remote side. Do
you know what kind of hardware you are calling into? Livingston
Portmaster, Ascend Max, etc..

This has nothing to do with MRU/MTU, etc.. It's the PPP connection
that is breaking. Again.. upgrading everything to the newest
revs will definately help reduce the troubleshooting here.
(ps. be warned that the file format of /etc/ppp/[pap,chap]-secrets
has CHANGED from pppd 2.2.x to 2.3.x). A trival change but your
files used now WON'T work with 2.3.x.
Good luck!
