OK, I have proceeded a little further than I did last night.

a) Last night I did not have my Linux box listening for BOTH the fake and the real IP
addresses.

b) I wasn't loading any masquerading modules.

c) I reduced my ipfwadm to just...
ipfwadm -F -p deny
ipfwadm -F -a m -S 192.168.1.0/24 -D 0.0.0.0/0
instead of the entire section 4.4 of the how-to (I'll deal with blocking the other
garbage later, after this works)

now, I can
a) ping my fake linux address from my win95 box
b) ping my real linux address from my win95 box
c) perform DNS entries from the win95 box (my linux is not my DNS server, my DNS
server is "out there")
but I can't
ping the outside world. It's strange, if I do
ping www.netscape.com
my win95 box goes out of my network to get the IP address of 207.200.73.73, but I
don't get any ping replies back.

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

P.S. Troy asked where I lived that I get ADSL access, I live in Nepean, Ontario,
Canada, which is basically a burb of Ottawa. So far, ADSL ROCKS!
