Per the BFD website - they have 33 E + 18 K + 4 Tower Ladder + 2 Rescue - that adds up to 57 companys. Lets call it 60 companies since the R and TL have extra staffing.
If all companies became quints - and each quint had its own station - then you would nearly double the number of stations in the city. Response times could theoretically be cut in half. Advantages - more aerials to the roof in congested neighborhoods Disadvantages - maybe less hand tools and ground ladders available on a first alarm (because you can only cram so much gear onto 1 rig) - unless there was Type A quints and Type B quints - A would have Engine hand tools - B would have Ladder hand tools Changes to procedures? - not really - first quint grabs hydrant - 2nd quint does "ladder" work - 3rd quint grabs 2nd hydrant - 4th quint does more "Ladder": work - 5th quint grabs 3rd hydrant - all 5 sticks go to roof (sooner or later) if congested neighborhood with attached blds or close blds EMS calls would be run by quints - not much different than running EMS calls with Ladders now Staffing stays the same - 1 officer & 3 firefighters per rig --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
