I heard this incident on BFD Ch 4 483.2375R - some of the units in the
tunnel were dropping in and out of the repeater system and messages
had to be repeated

I thought the comms were very very strange - such as -

R1 is going up to Park St Station from Crossing Station, the train is
up there, can you check that the train is at Park St? - are they going
up in the tunnel? - yes - do you want the power shut off with people
in the pit? - we have a subway inspector here - do we have people in
the pit with the power on? - we are testing the third rail now - do
you want the power turned off? - its a small grease fire on the tracks
- do we have people in the pit with power on? - yes - I dont want
anyone in the pit with the power on, I am going to have the power shut
down - Fire Alarm to Command, do you want the power shut off? - yes -
the inspector says that we dont need the power shut off - Fire
Command, do you want us to hold up on killing the power? - yes

And then 10 minutes later ::: Command to Fire Alarm, you can turn the
power back on

Very very strange

Problems -

1.Confusion over actual location of the train
2. Confusion over who was ordering the power on and off
3. Confusion if power was actually on or off
4. Multiple messages needed to accomplish anything

They might need a very simple procedure ::::: kill the 3rd rail power
before arriving at any subway station incident - unless it is 100
degrees in the summer time (maybe they can run the fire fans to
provide cooling)
