Boston Massachusetts Fire Department - Dispatch Procedures

I will try to simply explain how the Boston FD dispatches units to incidents

1. Box alarms - box is beeped on Channel 1, and transmitted to all
stations via the telegraph system at the same time - the "house" man
at each station is responsible for looking up the box number in the
"box book", determining if any inservice companys in the station are
due to respond, and alerting them via the public address system in the
station - companys "on the air" are dispatched verbally by the radio
dispatcher at the Fire Alarm office via Channel 1 (483.1625R) -
possibly the first due engine and ladder are prealerted to the box by
Fire Alarm either via house telephones, or via the Ch 5 paging system
(453.65) - I am not sure if the boxes are received in the stations via
teleprinter, or computer - boxes may be transmitted via the MDT
(Mobile Data Terminal) system also

2. Still alarms (anything that is not a box alarm) - companys are
alerted verbally via Channel 1 if the company is not in a station
house - otherwise, companys can be alerted via station telephone, Ch 5
to the house man, maybe cellphone, and maybe via MDT

Note 1 - I am not sure if Ch 5 can open speakers throughout the
stations or just at the watch desk in the various stations

Note 2 - I am not sure if the stations have computer printers for
receiving alarms - I am not sure if the printers are controlled via
the Internet with wired connections or via a 800 Mhz MDT channel or
via some other means
