just thinking out loud Backup radio arrangements for Boston could be as simple as 1 person at the Top of the Hub with a portable radio on a simplex channel - but I dont think that BPD has any simplex capability at all (except maybe for some detectives and maybe SWAT)
Alternately - I am sure that they have backup repeaters on other highrise buildings But if they lose the ability to use the backup repeaters - then I guess they could try to run a strong mobile radio from Bellevue Hill or Orient Heights or maybe Telegraph Hill or maybe Saint Margarets Hospital - I think that I can see every part of Boston from Robbins Farm Park in Arlington - that would make a good site for simplex ops If every BPD station had a simplex base station - that would work good. If every BFD station that houses a District Chief or Division Chief had a simplex base station - that would work OK. Maybe there needs to be a simplex base station at every police, fire, and EMS station in the city. The cost would be modest I am sure. BFD might have 4 district repeaters now on the splinter channels, but I have not heard them used in a long time, and I dont know what kind of coverage they offer. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
