This report says there might be $20B in waste in hospital spending in Massachusetts annually but if you look at page 44, you can see that they only ID 1.2B in waste (readmissions and Ed overuse) - the other $19B in waste is pretty damn vague Mass spends about 16% of GDP on medical costs - nationwide average is about 15% - obviously, Massachusetts is not that bad on the medical spending compared to other states Hospital spending is interesting - if insurers pay them alot, they spend alot Average expenditure per Medicare patient is approx $12K High expense patients are pulmonary and infectious cases 18% of Mass smoke cigarettes - 69% is obese - if I remember those numbers correctly - they are buried in the report somewhere -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
