Lt Walsh and FF Michael Kennedy died in the fire. Deputy Chief (Finn)
was very straight forward about what he thinks happened. E33 took a
line down the stairs into the basement. A window popped. The high
winds coming across the Charles River drove the fire from the rear of
the bld to the front onto the firefighters. They had been the bld only
2 or 3 minutes when they called the Mayday.

There was a backdraft or smoke explosion shortly thereafter that blew
FFs down the stairs (at the front of the bld).

Lt Walsh was married with 3 children under the age of 10. FF Kennedy was single.
