I think I did get that right. Boston just struck Box 3656 for a bld fire that turned out to be a chimney problem. Just 2 pumpers and 1 aerial were held at the scene. The RIT Engine (E17) and Rescue 2 were cancelled by Car 8, and then the allout was transmitted. There was no mention of a Tower Company, Rehab Unit, TacCom, RIT Ladder, nor H1.
It appears that the dispatch policy is - first alarm for any report of fire seen in or from a bld, or smoke seen in a bld. "Smoke showing assignment" gets sent if a FD unit sees smoke, if it is a highrise or subway or special location, or maybe if 911 is getting multiple reports of a incident. Probably any report of a major incident gets the extra response also. A 2nd alarm is never transmitted by he Fire Alarm Office without permission from someone in the field. I think that some citys might do this - but not Boston.
