I saw a recent comment that the NWS has done recent upgrades to their radar, and they really no longer need storm chasers to go out and chase tornadoes. Apparently the upgrade allows the NWS to see more accurately see tornados with their radar. I am not sure how accurate this statement is. I am not sure how this affects the whole concept of "weather spotters" nor how much difference this makes for all severe storm warnings.
