I heard this on the scanner - a 16 year old girl was injured in a car
crash - traffic was heard on 154.43 simplex

820 AM - Rindge plus Jaffrey Amb was paged - car on side - male laying
on ground - 150 Perry Rd - use Tac 1 ( at scene)

820 AM - 26C1 responding

820 - 16A2 responding

820 - dispatcher reports that they are putting UMass helo on standby -
will wait for an update before launching helo - have an update from
scene - 16 year old female conscious and breathing with a shoulder
injury

823 - 26 Rescue 1 responding

Umass is on standby - give us a quick update when you get there

0825 - 26Eng1 responding with a full crew

0825 - 16C2 at scene

26 Rescue 1 at scene - 26C1 in command - going to Tac 1

your pleasure on helo? - received

16A2 at scene

positive LOC - party ejected - will get ETA on helo

UMass declined due to weather - going to DHART (will call DHART helo)

both DHART aircraft are out of service

will try Boston Medflight to rendevous at MCH (in Peterboro NH)

843 AM - page for Jaffrey Medic - possible ground transport to UMass Worcester

we are on the phone with Boston MedFlight - they will take it but they
might have to abort if they run into weather

845 AM - cancel helos - will go via ground to UMass medical Center in
Worcester MA

(I seem to recall a similar incident a year or two ago - let me check
the archives)

"958, we are checking on it" - apparently this was keene telling the
Rindge Fire Station that they were checking on the availability of a
medical helicopter

26 Rescue 1 responding with 2 - victim is conscious and breathing

DHART declined due to weather - checking with Worcester (UMass LifeFlight)

16A2 responding (Troy Amb)

858 AM approx - 26R1 at scene - 1 vehicle against guardrail - victim
down in road

900 AM - 26 Engine 1 responding with 4

901 AM - 26E1 at scene

25 minute ETA (for helo)

(Winchendon Mass) 39 Eng 4 is responding (to LZ) per SWNH

16A2 at scene - 904 AM

it took 7 minutes for Rescue to arrive - took 13 minutes for ambulance
to arrive - might have taken 35 minutes for helo to arrive

- 62 miles to Mass General Hospital - I have driven most of those
roads - they can do 45 MPH on most of 119 - I495 and Rte 2 they could
go 80 MPH with no problem - they could make the trip in under 1 hour
if they knew the roads

I am not sure how the capabilities of the medevac helos compare to the
regular paramedics, or the critical care ground ambulances, or to an
average Emergency Room for that matter
