On Dec. 29, the Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs
announced $18.4 million to 13 communities for clean energy and energy
resiliency projects. Projects include a battery storage system for a
solar energy installation at a Greenfield high school; projects
involving renewable energy generation and battery storage in Holyoke,
at the fire headquarters, Mt. Tom Tower and the Dean School; and
resiliency projects at the Smith Vocational and Agricultural High
School, the Department of Public Works and Cooley Dickinson Hospital
in Northampton. It was the second round of grants from a project to
prepare the state for climate change, which was announced in January.
The grants were funded by payments made by retail electricity
suppliers. Another round is planned for 2015.
