Cambridge Massachusetts - 2,431 apartments being repaired - probably
60% for elderly and 13% for disabled - repair costs range from $15,000
per apt to $212,000 per apt

Many of the apts were probably built in 1950s to 1970s - they probably
all need to be demolished and rebuilt entirely

I think they already spent $50M to repair 2 complexes

One of the richest communities on the face of the earth - the City
Manager makes $400K per year IIRC - police chiefs and fire chiefs make
$250K IIRC - home to Harvard University and MIT, and a bunch of high
technology firms

What do you think it really means when the units will be turned over
to a non profit but will revert to CHA?

Bottom line question - what should Cambridge do with the elderly and disabled?

Note - housing authorities in Massachusetts are collaborative efforts
of local, state, and federal funding - each community (city or town)
has a housing authority board of elected officials - they pretty much
rubber stamp anything the State (DHCD) tells them to do - tenants pay
30% of income as rent (which typically covers staff costs and utility
costs) - major capital expenses (roofs - elevators - etc) are paid by
the State - the feds kick in some money also
