254 PM - snow starting to fall - visibility about 1/2 mile now - snow
banks are about 5 feet high in Arlington Center already (the
intersections have been cleaned up nice - but there is still lots of
snow right along the gutter lines)

I have not heard a forecast recently but something tells me we will
get a foot of snow with wind gusts to 50 MPH - with temperatures in
the teens (maybe lower since there is supposed to be record setting
cold)

The MBTA told everyone yesterday that they would not run on Sunday. A
complete system wide shutdown. I would love to see them keep the
underground subways running if possible. Alewife to Kendall. Park to
Andrews. Haymarket to Kenmore. North Station to ?Mass Ave. State to
?Maverick?. You just need 5 motormen, 1 or 2 T cops, and 1 dispatcher.
Put them up at the Ritz or something if need be.

Maybe the emergency exits would all get covered with snow. That might
be a problem.

But in the case of a disaster, those subway lines could be very useful.

You could park Rescue 1 at Downtown Crossing, and have them haul their
jaws around on the subway - if the roads are really impassable. EMS
could transport patients to NEMC. Police could move reinforcements
from neighborhood to neighborhood. If mass evacuations of a building
or neighborhood were needed, the subway would be very valuable.

Just thought of something. Maybe they should cover the Red Line from
Charles Station to Kendall Station. That is no more than a half mile.
That would allow access to MGH for anyone between Alewife and Andrews.
Maybe they could use a heated clear acrylic covering so the visually
tender crowd would not be dismayed.
