A return to complete creative control has been the silver lining of losing the CBS broadcast — WBZ (Ch. 4) still carries the broadcast locally (and will air it 8 p.m. tomorrow), and fans across the globe can log on to bostonpopsjuly4th.org to watch the stream. Money is tighter, so securing guests isn’t as easy as it was with CBS’ backing, but now Lockhart has the freedom to program an event he believes in.
