just thinking out loud

Lets say that we convert the 4 medevac helicopters in Massachusetts
into ground units. Since each helo has a crew of 3, this is a total of
12 people per shift. If you used the 12 people to staff ground units
that had crews of 2 each, you could staff 6 ground units.

If the ground units can travel at 60 MPH, then in 10 minutes they can
travel 10 miles. This would give each ground unit a coverage area of
400 square miles. 400 times 6 is 2400 square miles, IIRC Massachusetts
is 5,000 square miles. Therefore we have half of the state within 10
minutes of an advanced ground unit (just from the conversion of the
helos to ground units).

Considering that Boston MedFlight already has 3 or 4 ground units, and
that the private ambualnce companies probably have 20 advanced ground
units (critical care), I think we can say that everywhere in
Massachusetts can be within 10 minutes of an advanced ground unit - if
an effort is made to create a statewide dispatch system for them.

Something to think about.
