I forgot to mention that neither BLM nor USFS nor Kern County FD operate any ambulances. I think they all respond to EMS calls as first responders - but none of them transport patients to hospitals. Kern County is served by a couple of private ambulance companys. One of them even operates a medevac helo. I have no idea how many ambulances are usually staffed in the Lake Isabella area.
If Kern County Sheriff has 5 helos and 3 planes, and if Halls Amb has 1 medevac helo, and if California City has 1 helo, and if Mercy has 1 medevac helo in the county some where - how many of these aircraft responded to the Erskine Fire? How many know how to drop water? How many can do recon? How many can serve as radio relays? Note - all of the radio traffic that I was hearing on the "Kern 3" radio channel - East Command - was mostly loud and clear. IIRC it is a VHF highband (155.625R) synchronized simulcast system -which apparently worked pretty doggone goodly. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
