250 comments no one ever got around to saying that 'volunteers' are activated via pager while 'career' firefighters are at the station - which can cause a 2 to 15 minute delay in response in other words - they are totally missing one aspect of the concept of a "volunteer firefighter" - whom is actually a "on call firefighter" who usually aint "in the station house" you know what I mean - i aint gonna get all legal and precise about it ---------------------------------------- think of it this way - there are 10 types of fire stations (in an operational / response time sense) 1. no one at the fire house - guys show up when paged - first truck leaves with 1 driver 2. no one at fire house - guys show up when paged - first truck leaves with 2 people on board 3. no one at fire house - guys show up when paged - fire truck responds with a "full crew" - whatever that means - full of beans maybe 4. 1 guy at fire house - when the alarm sounds - he sits in the fire truck and waits for someone to show up - (there was actually a FD like that - I posted about it maybe a year ago - it was so friggin weird) - (actually I think they had 3 guys at the station and waited for a 4th guy to show up - the IC responded first alone - totally weird) 5. 1 guy at fire house - when the alarm sounds - he takes off in the fire truck like a bat out of hell 6. when can go on from here as the cost of the fire department rises dramatically Note - for number 5 - that could be a paid guy or a volunteer - I think there are many VFds in the USA that have people at the station house but they aint getting paid to be there -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
