there is a hour long documentary on YouTube about the making of Its a Mad Mad World
------------------ Milton Berle was talking Ethel Merman hit me in the head with her purse. I got a big bump that I had for 6 months. Everytime she saw me, she would say - "how is the bump?". Everytime I would tell her to go to hell. ------------ Norman Feld (the landlord from Threes Company) said - we looked in Ethel Mermans purse - it was full of all of her old costume jewelry. ================= Jonathan Winters is in another video talking about the garage scene - he said that it was all done in 1 take. He had been in a mental hospital for 1 year. He got a telephone call from a big movie producer to participate in the movie. His wife told him that if he turned it down, he would never get another role in Hollywood. He immediately accepted the job offer. ===================== The movie was written by a guy who had only done serious movies previously. He wanted to prove to everyone that he could write a comedy. He sent a 10 page outline of the movie to Hollywood, and they bought it immediately for $300,000. (which is probably like $3M today). Each actor got 2 thick scripts - 1 for dialogue, and for everything else. There was no ad libbing on the set or maybe there was - 2 views of that. Or maybe - no adlibbing on the dialogue, but collaboration / cooperation between actors and director on movement and expressions etc -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
